Actor Jung Woo-sung's Illegitimate Child and Personal Life Controversy

One of the biggest recent issues in South Korea revolves around famous actor Jung Woo-sung and the controversy surrounding his illegitimate child and personal life.

On November 22, 2024, model Moon Ga-bi broke her two-year hiatus by posting on Instagram, revealing that she had given birth to and was raising a son. However, the Instagram post did not disclose the child's father's identity or any details about marriage. As the news spread, Jung Woo-sung's side clarified that while he would take legal responsibility as the biological father of the son born out of wedlock, he would not marry Moon Ga-bi.

They stated that since their relationship was not premised on marriage, there was no intention to wed. It was also mentioned that just before the news broke, the two had a separate meeting, during which Jung Woo-sung firmly rejected marriage, causing friction with Moon Ga-bi's side.

There’s been an exclusive report about Jung Woo-sung’s long-term relationship with a non-celebrity. While their relationship wasn’t publicly announced, it was widely known that they often double-dated with Jung Woo-sung’s close friends, actors Lee Jung-jae and Lim Se-ryeong. Despite this, it was reported that Jung Woo-sung’s partner had no knowledge of his affair with Moon Ga-bi or the existence of an illegitimate child. She was reportedly shocked to learn that he had a child with another woman.

Jung Woo-sung’s agency stated, “We can’t confirm personal matters of the actor. Please refrain from excessive speculation.”

Later, a photo of Jung Woo-sung and another non-celebrity woman being affectionate at a photo booth was leaked online, though the source of the leak remains unclear. At the time of the report, it was not confirmed whether the woman in the leaked photo was his long-term partner or another individual. The agency reiterated that it couldn’t confirm personal matters. However, in a summary article on December 1, it was revealed that the woman in the leaked photo was a different person from his long-term partner.

After the controversy over his illegitimate child, there was much debate about whether Jung Woo-sung would attend the 2024 Blue Dragon Film Awards. Initially, his team stated that he would attend, but soon after, they announced they were reconsidering. On November 29, the day of the event, he decided to attend the awards ceremony but skipped the red carpet event.

Some non-celebrity women claimed they had received direct messages from Jung Woo-sung in the past and shared these DMs publicly. His agency responded, saying they couldn’t verify personal interactions on social media, as they fall within the actor's private life.

The agency explained that Jung Woo-sung’s silence on the matter was due to the excessive speculation, making it difficult to make an official statement.

During the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards, Jung Woo-sung took the stage as a presenter and mentioned his child with Moon Ga-bi. This drew loud cheers from fellow actors like Lim Ji-yeon and Park Ju-hyun, who clapped enthusiastically. However, this reaction was met with criticism from the public, who felt it was inappropriate given the scandal. Comments included, “Is this the level of the film industry, cheering for someone with a scandal instead of paying tribute to the late Kim Soo-mi?” and “The Blue Dragon Awards are like a washing machine,” implying the event was trying to clean up his image.
